Will I have to buy pre-boxed products I don't want?

Unlike some co-ops, buying clubs, or CSAs where everyone gets the same box of stuff (and you don’t know what you’re getting until you get it), with American Heritage Family Farm you get to order what you want, in the quantities that you want, when you want it. The weekly email lists the produce, meats, fresh flowers, and artisan goods available that week, and you can browse the items on this website before you place your order.

How do I order?

We periodically send out the weblog to all of our registered customers by e-mail. Ordering through this web site is our preferred method as it is designed to reduce the amount of time it takes us to process orders as well as provide you with detailed information about our products. We also invite you to e-mail or call with any questions, special orders, suggestions, etc. you might have.

When do I pay?

We accept cash or checks when you pick up your order. Because we may have to adjust your total (to account for unannounced items you decide to purchase, items that were unexpectedly unavailable, or to figure items priced by the pound), we do not accept advance payment on the website. We also want you to inspect your products, make sure they meet your expectations and that you are happy with your purchase before you pay for it! Just like if you were shopping at the local farmers market, except it is reserved for you and you do not have to beat everyone else there to “get the good stuff!”

Why Support Locally Grown?

Enhance your local economy:By purchasing from local growers, such as American Heritage Family Farm, you are providing stability to your local economy and small family farmers. You know where your food comes from and how it is raised – because you know the farmer!

Save natural resources and promote sustainability: Buying locally makes you an invaluable link in the process of saving resources such as fossil fuels and packaging materials. You are reducing your carbon footprint and thus caring for our land.

Provide learning opportunities and preserving heritage species: American Heritage Family Farm takes the role of educating our community about the importance of local sustainable family farms very seriously. We strive to educate and promote simple, clean, humane, healthy, responsible, sustainable ways of life. We promote the preservation of heritage species.

Promoting Animal Welfare We belive in treating animals with respect and dignity. Our animals are treated humanely and processed in an Animal Welfare Approved Processing Facility.

Supporting a way of life: The number of small family farms in the United States has decreased dramatically in the last decade. Please help us preserve an honest and worthy means of making a living.

We believe that small, diverse, family-owned farms contribute to society’s overall health. You have the ability to “vote with your fork” to promote this cause. Supporting local family farms with a decent working wage is a major way to decrease the increasing industrialization and “mystifying” of our food supply, while providing your family with clean, safe, wholesome “real” food!

May I pre-order any products?

We often have a waiting list for some of the most popular items. We can also often “grow to order” if given enough advance notice. We suggest if you would like to fill your freezer with beef, poultry, lamb, etc. it is probably wise to pre-order to make sure it will be available. We raise what we sell and turnaround time does not spin on a dime-we do not just make a call and have more delivered from the warehouse! Generally we list items you may pre-order in our market, however feel free to contact us if you desire something not offered.

Are all products available at all times?

Our weekly market lists what is available that week. Do not expect the same things to always be available. We raise what we sell. Some things are seasonal and some things run out. We cannot make a call and have more product delivered! (Example: It takes approximately 2 years to grow out a beef.) Sometimes the hens are in a bad mood if it gets to hot and they stop laying, the bugs get in the squash, and the frost gets the strawberries. That’s life on the farm! We love it – but it is unpredictable! Hence, our product availablity is unpredictable! We suggest you stock up when you can, preserve, buy a freezer, and be more self sufficient!
